I usually play a priest because it matches my RP style (care-bear, good and righteous) and my playstyle (I like to be the healer), but also the the nature-lover druid or the spiritualy wise monk. Religion helps a lot defining the character. You advised against creating religious orders inside a game. Well, in the nearly launched open-world MMORPG Darkfall, some people are actualy forming a religious structure much like the Catholic church. Though I won't join them I am very curious to see how that turns out. |

There are the ancient Empyreans, some of whom worshiped the Sun/Light, and sometimes slaughtered the non-believers who practiced sacrifice and worshiped evil primordial gods. Then there are the Isparians, the playable human race. The Aluvians, Gharu'ndim, and Sho each have religious and cultural beliefs that have been around since day one. My main character, An Adventurer, is a Sho man that strictly follows the teachings of Jojii, known as Jojiism. Jojiists must conform to four principles, called the four stones. They are Humility, Discipline, Detatchment, and Compassion. My character does not use magic as a test of his discipline, and wishes not to be famous for his great deeds, insisting to go by just an adventurer, and not his name. Compassion is a little harder to practice in an MMO, where to advance you must kill, but I try my best to not slaughter bunnies and such ;) |
