Currently, there is a Law suit against Microsoft for the allegations that they knowingly sold the 360 with design flaws that would scratch your disc while playing with it. Details regarding this case is closed since it is an ongoing trial held at Seattle court. Details are available in the XBOX 360's website and how can you protect 360 from this so called "design flaw".

I have heard of numerous complains about these in the past, and I just want to confirm that with you guys. I wont be buying 360 this holidays. hehe.

It doesn't surprise me. I have never and will never buy one of their consoles.

That's ridiculous. Of course if you physically move the device and turn it on its side while it's playing a game, you're going to risk scratching it. You wouldn't do that with a DVD player, a PS3, or anything else...

Did with the PS2 and I got no scratches.

Yup that's true but the degree of damage may vary from little scratches to making the disc unreadable again, which cannot be explained away with mere "do not move your console while playing" since there will be times that you might accidentally move your 360 while playing, in which such instance your disc will potentially be ruined. Consoles I think have this into consideration while making the overall design.

Sounds like typical Microsoft to me.

I think you are just in denial, I know someone who dosen't believe in the blue screen of death and thinks all problems are user error.

No thanks keep the change

lol, this is trivial compared to the red ring of death. A game being unplayable? not so bad, entire system not working? much worse. (and far more frequent)

Funny, because it happened to my sisters boyfriend last night, and he got his 360 about when GTA 4 came out.

Blue Screen of Death can be user error aswell as hardware and software. A thing we learned in a computer maintence class.

Not saying it's 100% but you have to admit red ring is still an issue.

From what I recall in my XBOX long time ago, its pretty sturdy, well built, and definitely durable. I guess they learned that too much attention with quality will keep the costs up for the console and will ultimately affect the console's selling potential.

Maybe they had just kept the production cost down to compete with console rivals like Wii and PS3. Which consequently resulted to this technical issues regarding such problems.

Keep cost down to compete with PS3!? That's maddness. Not even Adobe could price Photoshop like the PS3 was on launch day.

I have a 360 have had it since launch and no problems, no red ring, no scratched disks and I have moved twice with it, I have dropped it with a game in it and still no problems. I have to wonder what the hell people are doing with it to cause problems.

DM: From the deepest crypts crawls the undead thread, it's death rattle shakes you to your core. What foul necromantic forces brought forth this foul beast.
Cleric: I attempt to turn undead.
DM: You can't this is a WoW forum D&D magic does not work here.
Cleric: Well guys we are @#$%*%!
Wizard: Agreed, I believe this Necrothread was created by a dread ForumLych, impossible to stop, without a sense of humor.
Fighter: Very well I throw a badge or some other posting reward down at the necrothread and prepare a tactical retreat.
DM: The necrothread pauses at your offer, snaps up the reward and slinks off deeper into the internet.
Rogue: Phwew! That was close... I wonder if there are even more ancient Necrothreads ahead of us?
Fighter: We will only know when we continue on our journey through the crypts of Warcry.

dont think your immune ^^ just lucky, so far. My 1st 360, a standard edition, lasted 7 montsh no issues, then RROD. Second 360 was a Elite, lasted exactly 13 months (just over 1 year)and then RROD. I treated both of them with perfect care, and minimal usage.

RRoD is like the Blue Screen of Death, and 360 is ME. It'll happen no matter what, just be warned when it does.

I guess there are issues in the newer 360 since according to you, you did not have any problems whatsoever in your 360. Although you had mishandled it in some occasions.

Almost everyone I know who got a 360 has had the RRoD. From launch to bought last summer.

My Zune works fine, it only freezes when I turn wireless on ingame, that's more then likely because I don't allow for wireless to start up properly.

I'm not surprised, Microsoft does make some pretty crappy hardware sometimes.

My roommate bought a 360 about a year ago, no problems yet. Though, he doesn't use it much. I dont either, mostly because I have a PS3 that doesn't sound like it's trying to grind up sheets of iron while it runs.

Everytime I'm near the edge in convincing myself to get a 360, I hear something on the news or from a friend or on the WarCry forums that makes me reconsider my hasteful decision.

Microsoft is really going downhill as of late, what with their pay-as-you-go computer idea copyright and goal to replace Vista with Windows 7 by 2010.

Yeah but some games don't get published on PC though is why some people get consoles.

That makes sense. At one point 79 out of 100 consoles were coming out with RROD so im not suprized.

My console broke on me... But the new one I got is fine and seems to run a lot quieter too.

I've had my 360 for about six months, and I've had one problem of this character; Fifa 09. The week after I bought it, my brother bumped against the Xbox with his foot and the disc was unplayable from then on. I had pre-ordered the game, so I'd paid what amounts to around 100$ for it.

My brother didn't stomp on it, he just accidentally walked into it, hit one of the corners.

"This disc is unreadable"

HOWEVER, other than that - nothing is wrong, and I'm very happy with my purchase.

Yeeeeeees my boys.

Personally their just after the money, think about it this company Hauls in SOOOOO much money a year then they bring out the 360 with the whole red ring, they had enough money to go back into re designing it so it wouldnt happen, but did they? No, the 360 gets it, their just after your'e money at the end of the day.

Doesn't surprise me. Microsoft could crap in a box and most people would buy it.

This has personally happened to me. My copy of Mass Effect was scratched beyond being readable. I was not moving the system while playing it (who does that) originally it was suggested it was because I had the system on its side (why on earth would I keep it on its side, its not like that's how they display it in every piece of their marketing or anything)

I haven't even had the red rings of death... right now my Xbox sits untouched because I fear for my other games.

Although I can understand not wanting to buy this system for this reason among others, The 360 has a lot of really decent titles. So I'm going to check out the info on their site. I was going to buy a replacement, but it may be warranted to wait even longer until the info in this case opens up.

It wouldn't surprise me. Mircosoft really wanted to have the 1st next generation console out, even if it meant they didn't spend enough time testing it.

My friends copy of Halo 3 was unplayable by the time his 360 had finished with it, it was always in the drive or the case, so it's not like he was playing frisbee with it. I know my 360 has scratched a few of my games, but unplayable? That's bad. I gave him my copy, all is well now.

It's a shame as well, the Xbox was a well made machine, I loved that thing, but the 360 is so cheaply put together, it just makes me sad.

The 360 was cheaply made, and I have heard there are a lot of problems with the disk drive.
As of now though I'm not sure if those problems were solved on the newer models...
Also anyone notice that it seems to be the regular models that die all the time and you hardly hear of Elites dying.
