Never heard of disk scratching error. But heard a ton about the RROD. Why the hell haven't they fixed that problem yet?

I've heard about this problem a lot before, but so far nothing bad has happened with my 360.

Funny, I've had a 360 for going on four years, and the only time mine failed me is when it's laser went boom in a lightning storm. I've also never had disc scratched by my Xbox, the only disc I have that's unplayable is my COD4 disc and that's for a lot of reasons, but mainly because I played it on veteran for around a hundred and fifty hours.

And Microsoft is totally not replacing red ringed consoles. And extending the warranty for red rings by two years.

Currently, there is a Law suit against Microsoft for the allegations that they knowingly sold the 360 with design flaws that would scratch your disc while playing with it. Details regarding this case is closed since it is an ongoing trial held at Seattle court. Details are available in the XBOX 360's website and how can you protect 360 from this so called "design flaw".

I have heard of numerous complains about these in the past, and I just want to confirm that with you guys. I wont be buying 360 this holidays. hehe.

never experienced scratching with three different xbox360's, now there is the problem i have had three but only bought one: red lights of death so yes design flaw

The disk scratching, RROD...

Yes, it was badly designed.

Oh, and overheating.

Hehehe...the same went for my friend, then I accidentally remotely RROD'd it.

EVERY COMPANY IS A GREEDY COMPANY! Not just Microsoft. Every company, especially when they got Coperation, are greedy. They're in the buisness field to make money, not to spread love and give things away.
You want Greedy? How about Apple charging for updates? How about Apple limiting hardware to Apple approved one which is more costly then the average hardware. How about the fact they charge 80 for an 8GB flash drive MP3 player(nano) when my brother got one, smaller too, for under 50. Did everything the iPod did, just was cheaper.

I report badge farmers so that way they can't get their precious Matrix badges, among others. Abide by our rules, and do not spam up areas just because you think they're dead. I read dead areas frequently to report badge farming, as it's strongly frowned upon, and necroing is against the rules.

Capitalist companies are innately greedy. One cannot be involved in a capitalist system of operation without attempting to maximize profits and minimize costs. However, that's a soap-box rant for another day when I'm in a class about Marxist ideology.

It doesn't surprise me. I have never and will never buy one of their consoles.

I love my Xbox, in spite of it's problems :)

The 360 was cheaply made, and I have heard there are a lot of problems with the disk drive.
As of now though I'm not sure if those problems were solved on the newer models...
Also anyone notice that it seems to be the regular models that die all the time and you hardly hear of Elites dying.

Aye, I've heard that. Maybe by the time they got to the Elite they realised the problems they had made in the previous ones and thought "hey, let's make this one the best."
Which is typical, as I have the 60GB version :p

Its all because Microsoft had to get their system out before the PS3 hit the market. They rushed as much as they could and it showed.

My 360 started being unable to read discs, maybe it was because it was scratching them, fortunately it got the RROD so I got a free replacement due to it having so many problems.

It's quite worrying that I was glad for it to break...

Ok.
I'm no Xbox fanboy, I have a 360 but I play it about the same amount of time as my PS2 but being a PC gamer you kind of need a foot in to the console market so you don't miss the exclusives, but after reading this thread, I feel like I should stick up for the Xbox. I've had it since a few month after release (when the price went down) and I haven't had a RRoD. There is certainly a problem with the ventilation, my room feels like a sauna if I push it for more than a few hours, but it's not the life shattering thing I see it described as. Maybe I'm just lucky.
As for the disk drive, there's a problem there. I had the disk from Enchanted Arms in the drive and I decided to rearrange my desk. This involved putting the machine in the vertical position from the horizontal and there were some scratches on there. Really though, this is my fault for being a pillock. I should've taken the disk out. I did a similar thing to the PS2 and the same thing happened. Although, the PS2 is a lot less... rattley shall we say?
The build quality isn't a amazing, but it's built to be competitive with the prices of the Wii while at the same time not looking like the hardware isn't a million miles off that of the PS3. It's a niche it fills well.

I'm led to believe they did that on purpose. They made the original system, there was a problem with the hardware so then they built the Elite which had fixes, if you will. They have now fed these fixes back into the original machine which is why the new systems don't get red rings, apparently. I gave my sister my 360 as a birthday present (don't you wish you had me as a sibling right?) and bought a new one and I must say that the temperature of the system in game is a lot less... molten, shall we say?

That's ridiculous. Of course if you physically move the device and turn it on its side while it's playing a game, you're going to risk scratching it. You wouldn't do that with a DVD player, a PS3, or anything else...

See the thing is, the 360 DVD drive spins faster than a normal drive. So while a regular DVD player can take a little wobble, because of the rate the disk is spinning, a small shake to a 360 will destroy the drive.

Also is why it sounds like it's trying to achieve flight :P

I've never heard of that issue with the 360. RRoD I suspect just came from poor testing to get it released sooner, but purposely scratching the disks does sound like something Microsoft would do.

Like that guy up there somewhere said, it's because the disk spins too quickly. This is also what causes the console to get so hot (and noisy) and in turn that causes the RRoD. I think that's it anyway, I'm no Microsoft technician though.

The 360 wasn't ill designed, it was poorly designed by Microsoft so they could get a head start on the next gen market.

This. If they just took the time to properly vent and cool the system and did something about the noise (because I have heard Hoovers quieter than the 360) there probably wouldn't be so much of an issue. Rumor has it that the 360 has a staggering 33% fail rate but still people buy it and continue to buy it even when the first one RRoD's and that's saying something about the 360. I just don't know why Microsoft hasn't fully fixed it yet?.

Oh, shit.

I got my 360 during that time period. I'm going to need to trade in some games for new ones and be careful.

Maybe THAT was the weird noises I heard coming from it....
