Jumpgate Evolution: Jumpgate Pirate Radio

| 9 Oct 2003 23:43

Mrx: Could you inform are readers more about you first?

Antikas: At my age answering this question could take a while heheh...

I'll try to abbreviate. I serve two primary roles within The Reconstruction Initiative. I am the Science and Operations Officer within Eternal Legacy Command. EL is a non-factional Order of pilots. Our mandate is to protect the people of these systems... without prejudice. The conflux are our enemy.

Additionally, I am the Science Officer for the Echo Project, an inter-factional "civilian in-space" science effort. It's a collaborative effort... driving forward many of the initiatives you see in space. Our latest project-Jumpgate Pirate Radio: The Rock-Construction Initiative!

Mrx: How was this idea came upon?

Antilas: Well, the idea goes way back to before Johnny retired from service. We had started looking for listening alternatives to the 'Stock TRI Classical Music' played in most single pilot vessels. Johnny Prime tampered with his transponder array until he was able to pick up civilian broadcasts... but with the mechanics of Jumpgate travel the signals were always been nullified and reset. We set to making further modifications and hacked into the Pirate Radio Station Network.

Some time ago over a few Quanus Ice, we made the realization that if we could listen into broadcasts... why couldn't we transmit?

Mrx: Who is in charge of the Pirate Radio JG Channel?

Antikas: Johnny Prime.

Mrx: What can you tell us about the Deejay Johnny Prime?

Antikas: Heh... other than the fact that he is currently retired from service, not much. However I think you can plan on seeing him in space again.

Mrx: Can you tell us where the broadcast is from?

Antikas: Well, it goes back to some further modifications made to his transponder array. Now it can relay signals through TRI's Beacon network. You can try to track the signal back to it's source, but with all the nodes... it becomes almost impossible. That's the beauty of broadcasting on the Pirate Radio Network.

Mrx: What can listeners do if they wanna listen to their space tunes?

Antikas: Listeners have several options. If at all possible, I recommend the Destiny Media Player. You can tune in to Special Interests | Gaming | Jumpgate Pirate Radio.

Alternatively, without installing any additional software you can listen in via the hyperweb. Just check out http://echo.dynserv.org/science/radiodestiny.htm The webstream's quality is lessened, but it takes less processing power to receive. We are currently looking at upgrades that may improve the stream quality.

More information on both medium are available http://echo.dynserv.org/science/viewtopic.php?t=101

Mrx: How many times will you broadcast?

Antikas: Right now we are still in a developmental phase. Live broadcasts will be run once or twice weekly. These periods will give pilots an opportunity to get their f5:jpr requests and dedications played. We have also recently dealt with some hyperweb bandwidth issues... and are looking at running preprogrammed shows during off-peak hours.

Mrx: If there is anyone who wants to help with the channel, are you considering have a staff for it?

Antikas: We welcome participation in any form. This is the pilot's radio station. Those folks interested in helping out can contact me via the JOSSH forum, or the Echo Project forum.

Mrx: Again thank you for being here and I wish you safe travels.

Antikas: Thanks for having me.
