If you have any favorite places in Azeroth, better say goodbye to them tonight.
With the latest World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm, a mere two weeks away, it's looking more and more like the rumors may be true - that The Shattering of Azeroth will come tomorrow. Our friends over at MMO-Champion are fairly confident that tomorrow's planned extended maintenance will bring Deathwing out of his hole, into the skies of Azeroth and on a mission to do one thing and one thing only - destroy the world as we know it.
What does that mean for all of us? Besides the obvious extended server downtime most likely turning into an "until the evening or night" affair (don't be shocked when it happens; we should all be used to this by now), it means that the world we've come to know and love over the past six years is about to change - a lot. The face of Azeroth itself will be torn asunder and changed in preparation for the coming expansion. In addition to the old world zones undergoing dramatic changes, expect new Gnome and Troll starting areas, new load screens/login screen/intro cinematics, and a 20% reduction to the XP required to gain levels from 71-80, for starters. Sammew has compiled a decent list on the official forums if you want to check it out.
Also of note is the fact that once the servers go down, Zul'gurub will be removed from the game, and with it your chances of ever obtaining a Swift Zulian Tiger or Swift Razzashi Raptor. If you're a mount collector, tonight's the night or not at all! Good luck!
