Foreshadowing - to represent, indicate, or typify beforehand; to hint, prefigurate, prefigure, betoken, bode, forebode, omen, portend, presage, promise (Meriam-Webster Dictionary/Thesaurus)
Foreshadowing is one of the greatest literary devices ever invented, and is used in almost every story. It can be subtle, leaving small breadcrumbs for you to follow, if you even notice. In the month of Frostfell, PY 12, Asheron made a prophecy (I'm not sure he meant to do that, but he did). In the Zone Story "Eyes of a Child," he portends his current state of helplessness. Coincidence? Maybe, but most authors (and developers) will lay down an outline of the great scope of their tale, filling in the minutae as they go along. They also go back to review what they have done, and tie up the loose ends. Was Asheron just feeling tired that day, full of doom and gloom, or did he really anticipate that his magic would fail? You be the judge.
