Whee! You know, there are actually advantages to checking out these boards on a Sunday evening...I'm glad to be able to nip this one in the bud for you folks.
Here's the deal. GameStop is pre-selling CoH. The fact that they're pre-selling CoH has nothing to do with when the game actually ships, or when the game actually starts beta -- for both of these things are still being determined.
You shouldn't pre-order the game just because of it's beta promise. It will NOT get you into the early stages of beta testing. Being registered on these forums gives you a much better chance of getting invited into the beta sooner rather than later.
That being said...no matter what, you're going to have to buy the game at some point, right? So...you might want to consider doing this pre-order because it will indeed get you the extra goodies described (the Bonus CD). Please don't ask me any specifics about that bonus CD, because in all honesty, what it says on the GameStop page is about as much as I know myself. I don't have any further specifics.
The December 10th date they mention is their estimated date for shipping out that bonus CD -- again, Dec. 10th has nothing to do with when the beta starts, when the game ships, etc. You see, they'll send you the bonus CD and then later, the actual game when it releases.
That's the scoop. Again, the pre-sale is a good idea if you want the extra goodies (since you're going to have to buy the game anyway), but you shouldn't be purchasing it because you think it's your only, best, and fastest way into beta.
