The new Founder's Packages offer some fancy perks.
The first go round for the science fiction game Earthrise didn't go very well. Launched in 2011 as a subscription MMO from industry newcomer Masthead Studios in Bulgaria, the servers were shut down a year later due to lack of sufficient numbers. Masthead had plans to shift to a free to play model as some any other failed MMOs had, but needed outside investment to make that possible. That investment materialized in the form of a new company called SilentFuture UG and the new version entitled Earthrise: First Impact is in the works, entering an open beta soon. In order to secure some revenue, the First Impact website detailed several Founders Packages to get in on the beta test with some loot in your inventory.
Earthrise: First Impact is a free-to-play reboot of the 2011 MMO Earthrise. Set in a post-apocalyptic universe where clones perpetuate the human race, the player sides with either the authoritarian Continoma Project or the radical Noir rebels in a battle for survival. Each side will be given free reign of a dynamic open world that is altered and responds to the player's actions. Crafting and PVP elements are featured heavily, as resources are required to construct items and the quickest way to get them is from a fellow player-character's corpse.
The packs range from the 15 euro "Contribution" package to the 250 euro "Domination" package and they offer pools of in-game currency and special badges that can be displayed in the game world. The higher value packs also offer experience boosting items, a minipet, vehicles and a convenient VIP Teleportation Device, which I assume lets you travel around the world at no cost. The details for the packages can be found here.
We've seen many games recover from a drastically underperforming launch, but it remains to be seen whether Earthrise: First Impact will get that free to play not-so-secret sauce working for them.
