Everyone will be able to test out the new game a lot sooner than you might think.
There's already a licensed Dungeons & Dragons MMO out there, but Neverwinter has a lot of RPG fans excited. Brought to you by Perfect World's Cryptic Studios - makers of City of Heroes and Champions Online - Neverwinter will have a lot of the action MMO tropes you've come to expect, but it will also empower the kind of creative juices that singleplayer CRPGs like Neverwinter Nights got flowing. Cryptic has run a few closed beta test weekends of late, but today they announced a full open beta will be available on April 30th.
Time to sharpen your swords and memorize your incantations!
It's been over century since the Spellplague forever changed The Forgotten Realms. Now, explore the city that's been at the center of a thousand adventures: Neverwinter. Adapted from the real Dungeons and Dragon's ruleset, Neverwinter will feature action-oriented combat and storytelling unlike any other MMO. Take the world in your hands with the Foundry toolset and make your own tales. Make your mark in this legendary world.
Neverwinter is free to play - find out why in my interview with Cryptic CEO Jack Emmert - so there is a way for you to start playing the beta a bit early. If you purchase one of the founder's packs, you'll get to play up to five days earlier than everyone else - that's April 25th if you're not mathematically inclined.
In addition to the open beta, there will also be a final close beta weekend on April 12-14th. I've contacted Perfect World to try to give some beta keys away for that event, so check back on WarCry to see if we have any giveaways in place. That weekend will be the first time players will get to mess around with the crafting systems of Leadership, Mailsmithing, Platesmithing, and Leatherworking, and get to level all the way to the level cap of 50.
