The transmedia Defiance event is off to a great start, with tons of people watching the show and playing the game.
Defiance, the action MMO from Trion Worlds, was released a few weeks ago in order for players to familiarize themselves with the in-game world and characters before its tie-in show premiered. Now that the wait for Defiance (the show) is over, SyFy have announced that the two-hour premiere episode shattered records, becoming SyFy channel's most-watched scripted series since Eureka back in 2006.
Defiance's premiere episode drew in an impressive 2.7 million overall viewers, 1.3 million of them being adults 18-49. The show, featuring cast members Grant Bowler, Julie Benz (as Mayor Rosewater), Stephanie Leonidas,
A companion to the SyFy television series of the same name, Defiance tales place in the year 2046. Earth is changed. Alien races, having arrived on Earth, decide to try and make it their own. The ensuing war ravaged the planet, leaving mankind struggling to survive in a world now foreign to them. You play as an Ark Hunter, venturing out into the hostile terrain this new Earth to fight and salvage alien technology.
As Defiance is the first TV series and video game to have been launched together, the multiplatform event seems to be going very well. Since launching on April 2nd, Defiance players have logged more than six million hours of gameplay.
