Those clever developers at CCP Games found the perfect release date for DUST 514.
EVE Fanfest was this past weekend, celebrating the massive virtual world of EVE Online, its developers CCP Games, players, and everything else EVE. The event was a great success, and on top of everything else, CCP managed to announce the release date for their new PlayStation 3 free-to-play first-person-shooter DUST 514. Get ready to jump in to some intergalactic warfare on May 14, 2013 when DUST 514 will be released. Get it, 5/14?
"Reaching this point has required many years, hundreds of CCP employees, and the engagement of millions of players who contributed fantastic feedback during the beta process," said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP. "Now we start the real journey, which, decades from now, we will look back on with astonishment at all we accomplished. The EVE Universe will outlive us all."
DUST 514 is a game that's integrated with CCP's other massive hit, the player-driven MMO EVE Online. It takes place in New Eden and the two games are directly connected to one another. Players in DUST will all be fighting in real-time on planets in the EVE Online universe, and users in EVE can hire DUST players as mercenaries to aid them in the fight for control of other planets.
In EVE, a universe of unbounded opportunity awaits new capsuleers, whether they lust after wealth, crave the fight or simply yearn for adventure among the stars. The venerable and ever-updated science-fiction MMO lets you create a spaceship pilot, mine the stars, engage in corporate warfare, and live in one of the deepest MMO communities available.
Other DUST 514 features include planetary conquest, large-scale warfare with battlefields featuring up to 32 players in simultaneous combat, excellent character customization options, and vehicles that players can acquire and deploy in both land and sea.
We'll have to wait and see if the interconnected games will work as seamlessly together as CCP hopes. But if they do, we can hopefully expect more innovative titles like DUST 514. To me, this would be fantastic as new successful game models are always a treat to behold.
