The Cathar debut in SWTOR Patch 2.1 alongside new customization options.
The Star Wars universe's numerous diverse races have been largely lacking in SWTOR since its 2011 release, with only nine of them available to players. BioWare teased a new playable race at E3 2012, and now, almost a full year later, we've finally been given details. The Cathar are a humanoid, cat-like species, purchasable with Cartel Coins. SWTOR's imaginatively titled 2.1 Patch, Customizations, which introduces the Appearance Designer Kiosk, will also see in the introduction of these adorable new tabby characters.
BioWare producer Cory Butler spoke to SWTOR fansite Gaming Face about the customization options available for the Cathar. The Cathar can be a part of either faction, and it will cost all players 600 Cartel Coins - the equivalent of roughly $5 - to unlock the race on their accounts.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is the only massively-multiplayer online game with a Free-to-Play option that puts you at the center of your own story-driven Star Wars saga. Play as a Jedi, a Sith, a Bounty Hunter or as one of many other Star Wars iconic roles and explore an age over three-thousand years before the classic films. Become the hero of your own Star Wars adventure as you choose your path down the Light or Dark side of the Force.
While players will have likely already encountered Cathar NPCs in-game, this is the first time that the Cathar will be playable; existing Cathar NPCs, including the companion Aric Jorgan, have received a makeover.
This comes alongside the new ability to change your character's species. A species change costs 800 Cartel Coins each time, and its cost is independent to that of unlocking the Cathar race.
Patch 2.1 hits "not long after April," finally bringing the MMO back in line with the cat-obsessed citizens of the internet. I wonder if the Cathar will have any devastating, race-specific attacks? I mean, cleaning up vomit-soaked hairballs is a pretty good way to ruin a day - let's hope BioWare's worked that in somewhere.
