The brand new Diablo-style MMO has killed its NDA and invites players to test it out this coming weekend.
Superheroes are the new vampires. While in 2008 everyone was talking about Edward Cullen and Jacob whatever-his-last-name-actually-is, pseudo-gothic literature was being thrown from the tops of buildings, and gothic culture was everywhere from Supernatural to earning its own section in book stores. More recently, however, there has been an explosion in superhero culture, bringing in tons of new fans trailing behind the ever-popular Marvel and DC films. Alongside this increase in popularity has been a number of new games starring our favorite heroes, including the Facebook game Marvel: Avenger's Alliance, and Turbine's Infinite Crisis. Now stepping into the arena is Gazillion Entertainment's latest project, Marvel Heroes, an action MMO based heavily after Diablo set in the Marvel universe. This past Saturday, the Marvel Heroes Facebook page announced that the game will be entering open beta beginning this coming weekend, in honor of the release of Iron Man 3.
Marvel Heroes is a FREE-TO-PLAY action-packed massively multiplayer online game created by David Brevik, the visionary behind Diablo and Diablo 2. Set in the iconic Marvel Universe, Marvel Heroes combines the core game-play style of Action RPGs and MMOs with the expansive library of heroes from the Marvel Universe. In the game, players can collect and play as their favorite Marvel Superheroes (including Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, Hulk, Spider Man, Captain America and many others). Team up with friends and try to stop Doctor Doom from devastating the world with the power of the Cosmic Cube in a story written by Marvel comic super-scribe Brian Michael Bendis.
Marvel Heroes is being headed up by David Brevik, who co-founded Blizzard and was one of the visionary leaders behind Diablo and Diablo II. The game is set up as free to play, but players can choose to buy new heroes and items using the in-game shop. On their website, Gazillion already has a number of interesting skins up for display, including a pistol-wielding pirate-costumed Deadpool.
The game is set in the Marvel universe, and boasts a huge selection of heroes already, including Iron Man, Wolverine, Spider Man, Captain America, Jean Grey, and many more. Their website also promises that players will be able to customize their character's powers and costume.
Although there isn't much information currently available about the game, as the NDA was just dropped on Saturday, players can check the game out for themselves completely free this coming weekend. Players who are looking to sign up for the open beta event can sign up on their website. The beta weekend is going to be beginning this Friday, May 3rd at 7pm PDT and will end Monday, May 6th at 10AM PDT. Marvel Heroes will be officially launching on June 4th, and characters will not be carried over from live beta to the official launch. For those of you who are interested in helping Gazillion testing their content, or just wanna live out your superhero fantasies, Marvel Heroes promises to be worth checking out.
