Defiance is still gaining momentum after being out for only a month.
Who ever thought a transmedia event could be so popular? Well, NBCUniversal and Trion Worlds, apparently. Their shooter MMO Defiance, tied to a SyFy TV show of the same name, is paying off and recently passed one million registered accounts since its launch one month ago today.
A companion to the SyFy television series of the same name, Defiance tales place in the year 2046. Earth is changed. Alien races, having arrived on Earth, decide to try and make it their own. The ensuing war ravaged the planet, leaving mankind struggling to survive in a world now foreign to them. You play as an Ark Hunter, venturing out into the hostile terrain this new Earth to fight and salvage alien technology.
"Fans of both the game and show have truly immersed themselves into the futuristic world of Defiance, with gamers eclipsing major milestones in game, while TV viewers are tuning in at record cable numbers for the first two episodes," said Trion Worlds.
Those major milestones include the annihilation of more than 500,000,000 hellbugs and over 1,000,000 Arkfalls. Hellbugs come in many forms and are one of the most popular enemies in the game, while Arkfalls are Dynamic Events in Defiance that offer substantial rewards in Experience and Lock Box access codes if players can complete all of the events associated with them within a given time period.
Good thing gas is free in Defiance, as Trion also mentioned that players have driven more than 50,000,000 miles around the terra formed Bay Area.
One million registered users is a great achievement for Trion, and it's clear that the team is extremely focused on delivering the best they can to their users. Nathan Richardsson, Executive Producer of Defiance even said in a recent blog post that the team is, "working diligently" to fix all of the server errors players have been facing.
