Winter is coming to the Lord of the Rings Online in Update 11.
Lord of the Rings Online players may be sharpening their swords in anticipation for the Battle of Helm's Deep, but before they encounter orcs on the battlefield in the next expansion for the free-to-play MMO, Turbine will release the Treachery of the White Hand update.
Treachery of the White Hand is a smaller update and will be available to players on May 13. The content revolves around the remote and frigid region of Wildermore and tasks players with finding a Stone Giant under the spell of Saruman named N˙rzum, who has caused an unnatural and deadly winter.
The update adds five new blustery areas to the game, each with their own storyline and adventures for users to play through. They include Writhendowns, The Fallows, Whitshaws, High Knolls, and Balewood.
Begin your own epic adventure as the Race of Man, Elf, Dwarf, or Hobbit. Based on the books written by J. R. R. Tolkien and not the movies, LOTRO is a closest thing you can get to strolling through Middle-Earth with a solid walking stick in your hand as the road goes ever on and on.
Also coming with Update 11 are new class-specific traits to enhance mounted combat skills, as well as Hobbit Presents. Hobbit Presents are free gifts awarded to players every day they log in to the game and vary from common to legendary rewards.
Another exciting addition coming with Update 11 includes house foreclosures. Normally house foreclosures aren't exciting at all, but apparently, there are a lot of vacant houses in Middle-earth taking up space that players want to use. In order to get ready for some of the player housing updates coming later this year to LOTRO, Turbine is issuing a final foreclosure warning to everyone who owns a house in the game that has been locked for more than 180 days. Once players get their warning, they have 60 days to pay the upkeep for their home or it will be put back on the market so that people who are actually playing the game can have a chance to buy a house closer to their friends and create more tight-knit communities.
