Cryptic released a teaser titled "module1" with a mysterious riddle for good measure.

In addition to the expected downtime for this morning's patch, there was a second period of emergency maintenance that was announced not ten minutes after the servers had been brought back up. As the servers were going back down, the Neverwinter Twitter account announced that they would be having a surprise reveal planned shortly thereafter. When I heard this announcement I was personally excited, as I had seen the Cryptic PR team giving away exclusive codes for in-game titles and other goodies on those medium recently, and expected more of the same. At 2pm EDT however, the Neverwinter Twitter and Facebook sent out a mysterious teaser titled module1.

The teaser itself is quite simple, displaying a dense, glowing forest, and the words, "They would seize from the moon the way to ruin and riches". The Cryptic team said in a follow up tweet that more details would be on the way shortly, but every fan and his mother is speculating the meaning of the riddle in the meantime. Guesses ranging from the addition of Drow as a player race, to the inclusion of Rangers or Druids are among the most popular.

It's been over century since the Spellplague forever changed The Forgotten Realms. Now, explore the city that's been at the center of a thousand adventures: Neverwinter. Adapted from the real Dungeons and Dragon's ruleset, Neverwinter will feature action-oriented combat and storytelling unlike any other MMO. Take the world in your hands with the Foundry toolset and make your own tales. Make your mark in this legendary world.

Personally, I think that the teaser is for the first raid-style dungeon of the game, and that Cryptic is paying homage to the classic AD&D published adventures. For those of you who aren't familiar with the older D&D versions, standalone published adventures were often referred to as modules, as they could be modified to fit into any campaign, and were used modularly with other standalone content. The focus of the teaser on a physical location, as well as the inclusion of a riddle, hints strongly at some kind of location based content. I also think that the content will somehow be related to a theft from a temple of Sel√Ľne, the goddess of the moon.

My guess is as good as anyone's, but I think that the inclusion of a module would be exactly the kind of forward-looking move that experienced MMO players have been looking for from Cryptic. As I have been writing, Cryptic has won itself a lot of favor in the first weeks of its launch, but needs to display its ability to sustain a long-term community if it wants to hold on to its players. A reveal such as module style raids would be an excellent move to appease both the content-hungry raiders and the classic D&D fans.
