Less than three months after the last patch, World of Warcraft is upgrading to 5.3.
In the past, Blizzard promised to patch more content in to World of Warcraft at a faster rate, and with the release of patch 5.3 less than three months after the large 5.2 patch, they seem to be keeping their word. Patch 5.3 is going live this week on May 21, and will bring a ton of new content to the game including a new Battleground, Deepwind Gorge, a new arena, The Tiger's Peak, new scenarios, quests, items, and more.
The new Deepwind Gorge battleground is a 15 vs. 15 battle for level 90 players located in the western area of the Valley of the Four Winds. The objective is to reach 1600 points by completing two different objectives. The first is to capture up to three mines so the NPCs inside will acquire resources, bringing you closer to the 1600 point goal. The second objective is to capture and return carts of gold from the enemy base. Returning a cart rewards a team with 200 resources and steals 200 from the other team. The battleground seems like a good mix between Arathi Basin and Warsong Gulch.
Tiger's Peak is the new snowy Arena coming in Patch 5.3 It's located on the mountaintops of Kun-Lai in the training grounds of the Shado-Pan. It's a pretty wide open Arena with two raised platforms on either side that players can use to get out of line-of-sight of their enemies and peg them from above.
Patch 5.3 also adds four new scenarios as well as Heroic Scenarios. The scenarios all offer quick lore-filled challenges and decent loot rewards. Heroic scenarios on the other hand task players to complete bonus objectives in exchange for additional valor points. All of the new scenarios can be completed on Heroic difficulty, and two existing scenarios, Crypt of Forgotten Kings and A Brewing Storm will also offer Heroic mode.
Enter the world of Azeroth and battle against the Alliance of humans, dwarves and night elves or the brutish orcs, trolls and undead of the Horde. World of Warcraft has a very large community of players with hundreds of servers and a myriad of endgame pursuits from raiding dungeons, questing, achievement hunting, PVP arenas, and now pet battles.
If solo play is more your style, the new Escalation quest campaign will be right up your alley. Patch 5.3 introduces the quest series that will ultimately have Warchief Garrosh Hellscream packing his bags. Both Alliance and Horde players can participate in the questline by visiting Lorewalker Cho at the Seat of Knowledge in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
Along with updates to the Brawler's Guild like new bosses and more ranks, one of the best parts of World of Warcraft's patch 5.3 is how much easier it will be to level alts. Not only is the amount of experience required to level from 85-90 being reduced by 33%, but Blizzard has added new heirlooms to boost XP gain and reduced a lot of prerequisite reputation requirements so that items are easier to get now.
While World of Warcraft's 5.3 patch doesn't add any new dungeons or raids to the game, it still offers plenty for players to dig in to.
