New monstrous threats await in the Last Stand At Southsun Guild Wars 2 update.
Speculation is always fun, and when an image appeared on the Guild Wars 2 website a week ago teasing the Last Stand At Southsun update, we couldn't wait to hear more. Luckily, we didn't have to wait too long as ArenaNet have now revealed all the details.
The Last Stand At Southsun is the second part of the Secret of Southsun update pack planned for May. Last Stand should hit servers on May 28 and continues the story of the wildlife attacks on Southsun Cove. Apparently, the culprit behind the attacks are none other than the sylvari renegade Canach, and it will be up to players to stop Canach's scheme from going one step too far.
Those playing in the event will have to face onslaughts of rampaging wildlife in Southsun, and coming June 5 a "hulking monstrosity" will join the fight, and he's not on your side. For participating in the Southsun activities, players can earn new Southsun Cove rewards, like a limited-edition Mini Reef Rider, and a Settler's Amulet, Keepsake, or Ring.
The world of Guild Wars 2 is filled with thousands of dynamic events that constantly change based on the actions of players like you. Fast-paced, action-oriented combat lets you attack on the move, dodge and roll away from enemy blows, team up with other players, and take advantage of environmental weapons to dominate the battlefield! Competitive play in Guild Wars 2 is easy to learn, but offers challenges for new players and hardcore PvPers alike. Guild Wars 2 is your story - your choices determine how your personal story evolves, and with thousands of possible variations, no two players will have the exact same experience.
Aside from the fun in Southsun, Last Stand brings a ton of new player versus player (PvP) features to Guild Wars 2. For those who love World vs. World, the update will increase the rate at which World XP is awarded. Basically whenever you do anything in WvW now, like destroying siege weapons, repairing walls, completing escort missions, etc. you'll get experience.
ArenaNet is also adding new daily achievements to WvW and new WvW abilities like Burning Oil Mastery. They're also introducing six new infusions that give WvW bonuses, and the option for players to purchase Ascended rings and amulets to become more competitive than ever before.
ArenaNet's episodic content updates are impressive, coming out at a steady flow and always filled with content for just about every type of player. We'll have to wait and see if they can keep this pace up, but for now, I'm liking what I see.
