Affected SWTOR players will get a free character transfer.
Star Wars: The Old Republic has been looking a little empty these days, hey? That's why BioWare have chosen to shutter its three low-population Asia Pacific servers, shunting those players to its other servers. Affected players will receive free transfers for their characters, which isn't exactly a consolation prize for being shipped off to a whole new world, but at least they won't have pay for the move.
BioWare community manager Eric Musco has taken to the forums to explain the situation. From Tuesday June 4, players will receive a free, one-use transfer for each character they have on either the Master Dar'nala, Gav Daragon, or Dalborra servers. You'll be able to take your characters to any of the other non-APAC servers.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is the only massively-multiplayer online game with a Free-to-Play option that puts you at the center of your own story-driven Star Wars saga. Play as a Jedi, a Sith, a Bounty Hunter or as one of many other Star Wars iconic roles and explore an age over three-thousand years before the classic films. Become the hero of your own Star Wars adventure as you choose your path down the Light or Dark side of the Force.
This news might be a bit of a downer to our friends in Australia and Asia, especially after BioWare's recent unveiling of their planned summer content - but hey, at least you'll have a bigger population to enjoy the festivities with, right?
