The Ragnarok 2 fixed what could have been a huge mistake.
We all make mistakes, but the Ragnarok 2 developers recently made some that could have broken the balance of their entire game. The developers accidentally listed some stats in-game for a Founder Title and some costumes that were never meant to be seen by players. The stats were there for balance purposes only, and were never intended to be the final stats represented in game. However, because players did see them, and spent their time and money trying to earn them, when patch notes were released that significantly nerfed the items on the same day they were to be given out, players were angry. They complained that they had wasted their time and cash trying to earn items that now weren't as strong.
In-game, Ragnarok 2 players initially saw that The Founder Title gave a whopping +30 to all stats. RO2 developer Heimdallr later explained on the forums that they had to nerf the Title because if it remained the same, "that would wrap all the gameplay around that title invalidating any other title forever." Additionally, since the title was only attainable if you leveled a Ragnarok 2 character up to 30 by June 1, future players would never have a chance to get the best item in the game.
Originally known as The Gate of the World, now known as Legend of the Second. The Gate of the World terminated in August 2010; Legend of the Second is still in open beta, and has been since January 2013.
The Tuxedo and Wedding Dress costumes on the other hand weren't supposed to have stats that didn't expire, but somehow that flew under the radar too. These mistakes combined ultimately resulted in Jay Choi, Vice President and COO of Gravity Interactive/WarpPortal apologizing for misleading everyone with misinformation.
"Today, we made big mistakes as you all saw. Whatever the original intention we had, it was not carried out properly and it is totally our fault that we unintentionally mislead the community by not providing proper information as we should have," said Jay.
He continued, "We know there is no way to turn it back or make it up completely. As a company who's been living with fans of RO and other titles for 10 years, we should have done much better but we failed. There is no excuse and I sincerely would like to apologize.
Our effort to fix and correct our mistake might not be perfect, but we will listen to the community for straight forward suggestions to improve. Do not give up RO2. You are Ragnarok 2."
As for the fix? The Founder title will remain with its current +30 to all stats but now will require players to be level 40 to equip instead of 30. The Tuxedo and Wedding Dress costumes will retain their original stats forever, as the Ragnarok 2 developers didn't want players who spent real money on them to get disadvantaged by their mistake.
In the end, it seems like what could have been a disaster for the Ragnarok 2 team ended swimmingly for all involved.
