The June 13 update heralds the introduction of the Science system.
Ah, it's cute when fantasy-based games show some evidence of technological progression. That's what's happening with Ubisoft's the Settlers Online: Castle Empire, whose new science system will significantly alter fundamental gameplay through the introduction of skill trees. New buildings, production chains and resources are also on the way.
The science system aims to create a lot more customization for players, offer them the ability to configure production in their cities. June 13's update is only the first phase; latter stages will be implemented progressively, with tweaking mid-way performed according to player feedback.
Seven new upgradeable buildings are being introduced, including a simple papermill and an ornamentalsmith to produce fittings for your books. To develop skills, players will have to produce manuscripts, tomes, and codexes. Players will also be able to specialize in certain skill areas, tailoring the gameplay to their preferences. There will be four skill trees; one is related to the player's home island, with the other three allocated to the specializations of explorers, geologists, and generals.
Also, active players will get a bonus. Log in before June 10 to receive the exclusive bonus item "Bookbinding Glue." You can catch up on the full update details with this video, guided by a Blue Byte developer.
