Now Iron Eater can finally team up with Shantoto in a Final Fantasy XI fan fiction made real!
For the 11th anniversary of Final Fantasy XI, Square Enix has decided to ask fans what they want to see by holding a popularity contest for NPCs. Square is asking for the name of the NPC that you'd like to hear more about as well as the type of story that you'd like to see told about them. The contest will run from: Tuesday, June 11, 2013 to Wednesday, June 26, 2013 7:59 am (PDT) or Tokyo Midnight. Participants must have an active Final Fantasy XI account at the time of entry.
NPC's and lore flavor are of special interest to Final Fantasy XI fans given the large narrative in the game and seeing a story told because you asked for it is an MMO player's best prize (outside of infinite cash or a fully leveled alt, I'm sure). Personally, I'd love to see more Shantotto or maybe some more about Gariri and Ifrit causing trouble in a San d'Orian bread factory.
Final Fantasy XI is one of the longest running, Japanese MMOs out there. It made a name for itself by forcing many different groups together onto the same servers and by integrating PC, PS2, Xbox 360, and PS3 players together. Through a translation system of canned questions and responses, players from all over the world can engage in game content and not be completely lost when trying to talk to each other. Square Enix is set to re-release the troubled "sequel" to FFXI. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be playable via PC and PS3 in August of 2014.
This contest comes on the heels of a screenshot contest they held earlier this year and will no doubt be one of many such contests held during the 11th year of FF11.
