If only Onyxia could solo enemy players like I can solo Onyxia in WoW.
Blizzard has been listening to player feedback about Hearthstone, their new virtual card game that was unexpectedly announced at PAX East in early 2013. In thanks for WoW and Hearthstone fan-appreciation, they wanted to show off a little more about the game based on that feedback. They've added a daily quest system to Hearthstone to help players earn a new currency system...gold! Next, they've added a leveling system in as much that players can now choose a class to be and gain experience points for it. This will help players gain class-specific cards and even "golden versions" of them. A release date has still not been set.
In addition to the changes in class-systems, gold, and daily quests, Blizzard has also added new card frames that will allow players to quickly identify the type of cards being played. Several card changes have been made to more accurately reflect how players perceive certain aspects of WoW. For example, Illidan Stormrage now summons minions everytime a card is played whereas Onyxia now summons whelps until the battlefield is full. "Many whelps! Handle it!"
Beta signup can happen on your Battle.net account profile or at Hearthstone's main page. Our previous coverage includes this video of two players at Blizzard playing Hearthstone.
Hearthstone was unexpectedly announced at PAX East this year but has been received with mostly excitement and curiosity. With the WoW TCG makers currently producing the MMO/TCG HEX, Mojang's Scrolls as well as the latest iteration of the Magic: The Gathering computer game, it is a strange time to be a collectible card game fan given the lack of choices last year and the flood of choices this year. Stay tuned for more news about Hearthstone as we get it.
