The Final Word
As the title of these articles imply, I have re-ignited as a Square Enix fanboy. The joy and excitement of playing a game that is difficult and new is extremely appealing to me and I feel like this is the moment, between Dark Souls and WoW, that the balance of difficulty can be achieved.
Should you buy this game? I think there are at least three big reasons that you should.
First, I think if you enjoy MMOs, you definitely should give it a shot. I am still in shock at how much I've enjoyed this game and you can see from the previous article that the obscene amount of detail in the game is indicative of their desire to please fans.
Second, Square Enix seems to feel that this game is worthy of a subscription model, eschewing the free to play model that's so prevalent now, and I think that their humility to redesign the game paired with the confidence in the product they've created should be enough to warrant at least a week or two of play.
And lastly, with PS4 and DX11 support coming a year or so after release, Square also indicates that they are planning for the long haul and they've already reported plans on adding around 40 new zones as they ramp the game up for the first expansion. This is a game that has been built, torn down, and rebuilt using a combination of love from Naoki Yoshida and fan desire.
