Gielinor is looking better than ever.
RuneScape 3, the free-to-play browser-based MMO from Jagex, officially has a release date. Get ready to slay the beasts of Gielinor with your friends on July 22.
RuneScape 3 allows players to continue progressing with their current RuneScape character in a new HTML 5 Engine. With HTML5, the developers have been able to update the game's graphics exponentially, increasing the lighting effects, draw distance, color, and load times without the need for plug-ins or Java. The game will also feature a new audio engine featuring music written by BAFTA Award winner James Hannigan.
On the gameplay side, RuneScape 3 will introduce a new user interface system that's been designed with massive customization in mind. The camera has also been overhauled to give players more viewing angles.
Additionally, there will be an epic-scale world event called The Battle of Lumbridge to help kick everything off. In this event, week by week players choices will shape the fates of characters, locations, and stories culminating in an outcome that will set the course for the future of RuneScape 3.
