My poor Zells Hotdogs will always be remembered in screenshots of FF14's Beta: Phase 3.

The third phase of the Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn beta is coming to an end. The final test of the current build of FF14 will go from July 10th at 2am PDT to July 15th at 2am PDT. At the conclusion of this phase of the beta, all phase 3 characters will be deleted and Square Enix asks that the phase 3 client be uninstalled and deleted. This deletion will also unlink PSN accounts and Square Enix accounts and all FF14 data on Playstation 3's should also be removed. Finally, the new Lodestone will go down for maintenance on July 17th and all data will be removed from that as well. At the present time, it is unknown when Phase 4 will begin but with the release set at August 27th and early access scheduled as a week before release, it should be within the next couple weeks.

Players who want to save their character's appearance can do so by keeping the following folder:

My Documents -> My Games -> FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn (Beta Version)
(From "XMB") Game → Saved Data Utility (PS3TM)

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is the "miracle patch" that Square Enix is attempting to place on the legendarily poor release of the original Final Fantasy 14. With the help of the current champion of MMO programming, Naoki Yoshida, Square Enix hopes to re-attract MMO players to the "damaged" Final Fantasy brand. Developers Letters and other content from Yoshida can be found over on the Square Enix FF14 Blog.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn has been generating some generally positive reviews from early beta testers. Recently, Square Enix proudly announced that they had reached over 1 million registered beta applications worldwide. Square Enix has had a significant amount of bad press this year as they suffered tremendous financial losses resulting in the resignation of their current president. In addition, there has been "terrible brand damage" done to Final Fantasy brands over the past few years that Square has yet to recover from.

So, there is a lot riding on this subscription-based game. I have been posting my own impressions from the game periodically.
