The Keeper of Time will stop you in your tracks.
SMITE, the third-person free-to-play MOBA from Hi-Rez Studios, has introduced yet another God to its roster of characters in its latest update. Meet Chronos, the Keeper of Time. Chronos is a ranged mage character who looks absolutely amazing with his staff made of gears. The God not only looks great, but he also introduces a very interesting mechanic with his passive ability. Aside from Chronos, the update that introduced him also added a few new skins to the game, including Legendary Skins.
Chronos' passive is Wheel of Time. The Wheel itself is always spinning, and divided in to four quarters. Based on where a spinner lands when Chronos activates his second ability, Accelerate, it will produce different effects. The effects include 20 percent Magical Lifesteal, 75 percent Mana Refund on Abilities, 20 percent Magical Power, and 35 percent Magical Power Contribution to Basic Attacks.
Before we continue on with Accelerate, let's go back (in time) and take a look at Chronos' first usable ability, Time Rift. When used, Chronos places a circle under enemy Gods and deals damage to them in an area.
SMITE is an online battleground between gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. SMITE is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITEīs battlegrounds.
Accelerate, aside from passively increasing Chronos with benefits based on Wheel of Time, also allows the God to progressively move faster for eight seconds. The ability also increases his attack speed, allowing him to easily chase down enemies.
When Chronos' third ability, Stop Time, is used, the God throws a set of gears out at in a line, and any enemy hit by them is damaged for a bit and completely stunned for a second. When used in combonation with Accelerate, Chronos can basically catch and stop any God.
Chronos' Ultimate is Rewind. Rewind lets Chronos travel back through time to where he was eight seconds ago and all of his cooldowns are instantly reset, except for Rewind's of course. Think of Weaver's Ultimate in Dota 2, Time Lapse. Rewind is great if Chronos is at the end of a sketchy team fight and needs to escape back to the beginning, or if he wants to use his abilities again to secure a kill.
In addition to Chronos, SMITE has added some skins with this update. The two new skins include Young Zeus and Golden He Bo. Legendary Skins have also been unveiled, and are given to players who purchase (or who have purchased) a gold skin and reached Mastery Rank 10 on the associated character. These Legendary gold and onyx skins are brilliant, and will truly show off who's the best on the battlefield.
The Chronos update is available now, so if you'd like to try the new God out, head over to SMITE's official website. Before you go, watch Chronos is action in the video below.
