Now we can answer that all-important question: Can Bubbly Bernie Defeat King Arthro? Ultimate Crab Battle Simulator in FFXI!!
Even with an August 27th release date for Square Enix's new MMO - Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, Final Fantasy 11 keeps getting new content. Today, Square Enix gave more information about a whole new mini-game for FF11 called Monstrosity.
In Monstrosity, players possess monsters within a zone. Once players are "inside the beast" of these monsters, they can fight against other monsters in the same area. Here, players gain "infamy" which will allow them to fight as or against stronger and stronger enemies around the world. Players equip their monsters with "instincts" that are allocated through a point system. At the highest levels, Square Enix indicates that endgame Monstrosity players will be able to possess Notorious Monsters (NM's) or High Notorious Monsters (HNM's) and fight other monsters of similar levels and names. Monstrosity is currently on the Final Fantasy 11 Test Server but a release date for the live server is currently unknown.
This mini-game is the latest in a series of content augmentations that Square Enix has termed, "The Summer of Content." During this series of events, a ramp up to the 11th anniversary of FF11, players have designed shields to be sold in-game, taken screenshots for prizes, given bonus xp weekends, and finally, a ton of content for the new Seekers of Adoulin expansion pack.
For more information, about the content currently being tested, check out the Test Server Forum. At the current time, Square Enix is testing Monstrosity, Geomancy effects, Reive adjustments, and new visual effects for new windows.
Final Fantasy 11 was one of the first, multi-platform, multi-cultural MMOs to come online. It began as a Playstation 2 game that was eventually ported to PC when it was released in the United States. Players who may not speak the same languages are on the same server as each other. In an effort to help these players talk to one another, a series of canned auto-translations were added. These auto-translations convey information in the language each player is playing in though players have migrated servers to the point that it has become rare to find players who do not speak each others language on the same server together.
