PlanetSide 2 has unveiled the new continent of Hossin which will add jungle and swamp environments to the game.
PlanetSide 2 devotees will have something new to look forward to in the near future. Whereas previous battlefields in the popular MMOFPS have dropped players into green fields, frozen frost lands and desert dunes, a fourth terrain type is being introduced to help further diversify the game's terrains.
The continent of Hossin, unveiled at SOE Live 2013, will transport characters to a landscape of mucky swamplands and dense jungles. Accordingly, the environments shown off in the released media look a shade of murky, gross green. Vegetation will be plentiful and environments look appropriately organic, as you would expect them to in a setting teeming with life.
The continent itself will be split into three Battle Islands and feature a central Interlink Facility which will be made up of maze-like architecture and include nifty lightbridges that will drop players to their death if their faction fails to control the corresponding control rooms. Obviously, these will be tasty structures for more defensive players to capture and hold.
Hossin itself represents the continued efforts of the PlanetSide 2 team to expand on the game's available continents. The developer's eventual goal is to one day sport enough environments to launch a planned Intercontinental Conquest feature that will allow factions to capture entire in-game continents they'll then control and need to defend from their enemies. Currently, Hossin has no official release date. That said, a portion of the new continent is already available on the PlanetSide 2 test server and more should be made available as time goes on.
