Panzer General Online will launch a closed beta before the end of the year.
As a closing shot to end the celebrations of its 25th anniversary, Ubisoft's Blue Byte Studios has announced that it's developing a new game sure to excite fans of online and turn-based strategy games. Panzer General Online, a new entry in the long running and well-regarded Panzer General franchise, is in development by Blue Byte, which is working closely with Funatics Software, the developer behind Cultures Online.
Players in Panzer General Online will "control of all the elements involved in the theater of war, including airplanes, infantry, tanks and more. The game allows players to command units based on historically-inspired battles." The game will feature "intense strategic battles" as well as single and multiplayer modes. According to the official announcement the single player missions will act primarily as an advanced tutorial to the online portion of the game. The game will reportedly also let players collect and trade virtual miniatures of tanks, infantry and artillery units that can be used to fashion their own custom army.
"We are happy to celebrate our 25th studio anniversary with the announcement of a new entry in the beloved Panzer General franchise" said Odile Limpach, Blue Byte's managing director. "Panzer General Online is a game where tactical skill beats the luck of the cards, and will appeal to new and old strategy fans alike." Released alongside the announcement was a CGI trailer that, though showing no actual in-game footage, points toward visuals with a board game bend. Panzer General Online is set to go into closed beta before the years end. Interested players can register for a chance to participate.
