Terraforming at its finest.
Sony Online Entertainment's landscaping spinoff for EverQuest Next, entitled Landmark, is launching later this year in advance of the main game to give players a chance to claim land, find resources and build out their own little corner of heaven.
But how will it work, you may ask. In response, SOE has released three new videos showing Landmark in action. The scenes are timelapsed, so watching them can be pretty hypnotic, but the before and after shot should give you a pretty good idea of just how powerful the tools will be to create your own areas free from player interference.
SOE has said that EverQuest Next will have a fully destructible world, so players will be encouraged to dig, blast and tunnel their way to find different layers of the world. Think of it as a much better looking, less blocky version of Minecraft
Player Studio, which allows player created content and sales for SOE games, will be used for these new areas as well. A similar experience to PlanetSide 2's Roadmap is expected.
SOE has said that some of the best creations may actually appear in EQN, so please be creative and not juvenile, although I guess we can pretty much guarantee a few obscene creations will be made, but hopefully they will never see the light of an EQN day.
