"Digital Scout" package backers and upwards will receive access on August 29th to a playable part of Star Citizen.
"Digital Scout" level backers ($30 contributions or more) of Star Citizen will be given their first playable glimpse of the game on August 29th in the form of an interactive hangar module being released by Cloud Imperium Games. The hangar module will give players the opportunity to walk around a working game environment and take a gander at their ships up close and personal, while the game's developers will get the chance to see the first built and stable portion of the game in action.
Star Citizen brings the visceral action of piloting interstellar craft through combat and exploration to a new generation of gamers at a level of fidelity never before seen. At its core Star Citizen is a destination, not a one-off story. It's a complete universe where any number of adventures can take place, allowing players to decide their own game experience. Pick up jobs as a smuggler, pirate, merchant, bounty hunter, or enlist as a pilot, protecting the borders from outside threats. Chris Roberts has always wanted to create one cohesive universe that encompasses everything that made Wing Commander and Privateer / Freelancer special. A huge sandbox with a complex and deep lore allowing players to explore or play in whatever capacity they wish. That universe is Star Citizen.
That said, it's a portion that's fairly unpolished. "The Hangar Module you will load next week is by no means a finished product. It is the earliest build of anything I have ever shared with the public," said an announcement the Star Citizen website. "We need your help to test the hangar...We will open a special forum for reporting and tracking hangar bugs. Your reports will go directly to the team, who will act on the bugs."
In turn, the coming months will see new revisions and content being released to expand on the current early build of Hangar Module. This add-on content will include things like customization options to personalize the hangar, persistent items, in client purchasing and the option to invite friends to your personal hangar. Additional game modes, including a Dogfighting Module, are also in the works for eventual release. The Hangar Module will be accessible to eligible accounts at the Star Citizen website.
