SOE's Brasse reveals studio layoffs, reaffirms commitment to the development of EverQuest Next.
Yesterday, Sony Online Entertainment's Linda "Brasse" Carlson announced that the studio will be laying off an undisclosed number of players. SOE is the studio behind PlanetSide 2, DCUO, and both EverQuest I and II. Layoffs are part of the usual cycle at larger publishing firms, so these should not be taken as an indication of SOE's solvency.
EverQuest Next is a complete reimagining of the EverQuest Franchise. Old friends and enemies will appear - but they may not be who you remember. With 10,000 years of explorable history buried beneath its surface and a future you will shape, this is your Norrath.
Posting on the EverQuest II forums, Brasse stated:
Today we announced a reduction in our workforce at SOE. As a company, our goal is to focus on our core expertise of MMO games and as part of these efforts, we had to make the difficult decision to eliminate positions to help reduce costs, streamline our
employee base and strategically align resources towards our current portfolio of games
and upcoming slate of MMOs, including EverQuest Next Landmark and EverQuest
Next. We deeply value our employees and are grateful for all they've contributed to our
company and games. They will be missed by colleagues and friends, and we wish them
well in the future.
Fans of SOE's titles will likely not notice any change from the layoffs, however EverQuest Next fans can rejoice, as the studio seems laser focused on getting the game developed.
