Be prepared for a slight jolt to the economy of the game.

Every MMO developer continues to tweak its game after release, based on user feedback and observations of play styles over time. ArenaNet is no exception, announcing plans for Guild Wars 2 that will eliminate Magic Find on gear and components, as well as introduce Ascended weapon crafting.

In a developer update, ArenaNet game economist John Smith said that the next patch will remove Magic Find from items, and players will instead gain magic find through salvaging Essence of Luck from Fine and Masterwork items and Globs of Ectoplasm:

Each Essence of Luck will contribute to your Luck Bar and each time the Luck Bar is filled it adds 1% overall magic find on all of your characters permanently, to a maximum of 300%. After this change, magic find will come only from consumables, guild buffs, and utility infusions. In order to get everyone started on this new system, all current players will receive enough luck to get to +20% magic find.

Smith said that any item that currently has magic find as a stat will become account-bound and lose its current stats. Players will be able to click on the item and select the new stats. Any items currently on the trading post will be returned to players.

In addition, recipes that have magic find are being adjusted to include other useful class-based stats.

The world of Guild Wars 2 is filled with thousands of dynamic events that constantly change based on the actions of players like you. Fast-paced, action-oriented combat lets you attack on the move, dodge and roll away from enemy blows, team up with other players, and take advantage of environmental weapons to dominate the battlefield! Competitive play in Guild Wars 2 is easy to learn, but offers challenges for new players and hardcore PvPers alike. Guild Wars 2 is your story - your choices determine how your personal story evolves, and with thousands of possible variations, no two players will have the exact same experience.

Game designer Linsey Murdock detailed the new Ascended crafting, saying that weapon crafting will come in the next update, with armor crafting coming before the end of the year. Players will be able to level crafting from 400 to 500:

In order to do this, you'll need to refine Tier 6 crafting materials and craft exotics. To facilitate this process, we have reset everyone's Exotic weapon discoveries so that you will be able to re-discover them and get that sweet XP bonus once again.

Once you hit 450, refinements will unlock for new materials, fondly referred to as Tier 7. There are two types of Tier 7 material: those refined from lower tier materials plus ectoplasm and a new reagent, and those refined from brand new materials rewarded from specific content plus Obsidian Shards and the new reagent. You'll also note the inclusion of a cooldown timer on the Ectoplasm Refinements. Each one can be refined only once per day, per account.

There is plenty more on crafting in the post, so if you spend much of your spare time with a hammer and anvil and working up a sweat making gear, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the changes.
