New system will let players keep advancing their characters after they hit the level cap.
Elder Scrolls Online already has a lot of content planned when the game ships in spring of next year. But as invariably happens with MMOs, eager players will power through content at a rapid pace, hoping to be the first to cap for bragging rights.
Developer Zenimax Online has already put some thought into what players will do once they hit level 50 and how they can motivate characters to continue to progress and flesh out their characters. Creative Director Paul Sage said that a system called Veteran Points will be implemented that will allow players to continue to move on through a variety of means.
Explore the rich world of Tamriel with your friends in The Elder Scrolls Online. The elements that make TES a unique experience will be there, includes an emphasis on exploration, visceral real-time combat, and immersion into an ancient world. Set a millennium before Skyrim, TESO is a rich world where three factions vie for throne of an empire. It's an ancient time of heroes an legends. It's time to make your mark.
Sage said that veteran points can be earned by going through master dungeons and completing various challenges, or doing things for other alliance groups. Veteran points can also be earned via PvP challenges and the new adventure zones.
The system sounds similar to what Blizzard is doing with the Diablo 3 Paragon system in the expansion Reaper of Souls. Or it could be structured in the way Borderlands 2 handled "Badass Points," allowing you to spend them on character upgrades.
TESO will be shipping with 16 dungeons and another six master dungeons for the level 50 players. Sage mentioned that a new skill line would be tied to a new guild called the Undaunted, allowing players to get experience with this guild as they go through the various dungeons in the game.
Sage was a little coy when asked if an adventure zone -- which are designed for four or more players -- would ship with the game, saying the team wants to make sure the everything is "really good."
