Now I get to see Draven's ugly mug in every League of Legends game I play. Great.
League of Legends has been expanding as a game in many ways over the last few months. Stepping beyond game maintenance through small content and balance updates, Riot has been taking major strides in eSports and adding extensively to the game's quality of life for both players and eSports followers alike. It feels like the calm before the storm in the League of Legends community, with everyone waiting for Season 3 to conclude in fire and blood. Certainly nobody feels the anxiety more than Riot, who has been preparing new content specifically to reward those who placed in the Season 3 brackets, including brand new ward skins. Apparently while they were in the market of getting new ward skins made, developers at Riot decided to go all in and have several more skins made, as three new permanent ward skins have been added to the League of Legends PBE store.
Priced at 640RP (~$5), the current skins on the PBE are modeled after Lux, Soraka, and perhaps more questionably, Draven. The ward skins apply to both Sight and Vision wards, and once you buy the ward skins, they're available for use indefinitely. Although ward skins have been available briefly during holidays in the past, this is the first time that ward skins have been made permanently available in League of Legends. Riot team member RiotWenceslaus said the following in a forum post accompanying the announcement:
"You've seen them during the holidays, but many of you have been asking to spruce up your ward supply on non-seasonal occasions. We've heard you and we're pleased to officially unveil the League's first permanent ward skins for 640 RP, now on PBE.
This first run of wards is themed after some of your favorite League champions, so even if you get edged out in the draft, you can still show your champion pride wherever you're laning. The next time you want to scout an inconveniently-placed patch of brush in style (or if you just can't wait for another chance to check out Draven's majestic moustache), now you can."
Ward skins are one of the primary rewards for placing silver or higher in Season 3, and by the wording of RiotWenceslaus' post, it seems that more ward skins are on the way. Although no current release date has been announced for the wards, they will be released in 'an upcoming patch', most likely after Season 3 when the rewards are given out. For players who can't wait to see Draven's terrible moustache wafting on the breeze, check out the video below that shows the unique ward animations.
