With any new high level raid comes a new tier of armor for the 11 classes.
The Siege of Orgrimmar in the 5.4 update for World of Warcraft is now live, and that means new armor and gear for players to attain. The ultimate in fashionable attire for the raiding classes in each new major raid is tier gear, and Blizzard has unveiled the new Tier 16 accoutrements for raiders.
There are three levels of tier gear: raid finder, flex raider/normal and heroic. They look identical except for color scheme.
Death Knight: The DK armor looks suitably evil, with a nice accent of down-turned horns on the helm. There is nothing outwardly wrong with its look, although the baby blue glow in the flex/normal gear seems a bit out of place with the plaque green and brimstone red-orange of heroic. Oh, what's up with the glowing codpiece? I guess that's the belt. Is that designed to be a mood ring of sorts? Run if it turns purple.
Druid: The master of the elements sports a leafy look on helm and shoulders, similar to previous tiers trying to offer that nature look. Accented in earthy tones, only the raid finder gear looks a bit off with what appear to be a purple combined with the olive green. The other tiers have a nice color scheme, highlighted by the autumn feel of the heroic gear. I hope the gear is being modeled by a Night Elf, otherwise the "ears" on the helm are a bit odd.
Hunter: My hunter is going to be the raider in the Siege of Orgrimmar and based solely on the look of the new tier gear for my Beast Master, I think I'd rather be geared in a set of mismatched armor rather than group this look together. The helm appear to be designed for hunting at night, with that huge headlight in the center. How am I supposed to see? And what's up with the pocket watch look on the right sleeve? The rest of the gear looks respectable, and the color schemes are fine. Hopefully I can ditch the helm without losing a gear bonus.
Mage: The first thing that stands out is the ridiculous goggles and the lightning bolt shoulders. Is this a mage or Victor von Frankenstein? The shoulders also have this inverted angel-wing thing going on that seems to be a bit of flair gone wrong. The color schemes for raid finder and flex/normal are similar, with only heroic offering a look made for a fire mage. Again, another disappointing piece of armor for the head slot, but nothing else that stands out from blah.
Monk: The headpiece here is simple and effective, following with the Shadow-Pan look Blizzard has created for the Pandarens. The chestpiece, however, has a bit of a gaudy necklace look near the top that seems out of place with the subtleties of the rest of the gear. The open-style of the gauntlets lends a bit of credibility to the armor as gear for a class that can easily decimate an opponent in unarmed combat. A decent look overall.
