World War 2 tanks to be focus of new tech tree.

When you think of armor powerhouses that may be spotlighted in Wargaming's World of Tanks, Japan probably is not one of them. However, while it was known for its air power and naval expertise in World War 2, the country had a fairly large tank force before the war, and even developed some sturdy and serviceable machines. Unfortunately, in its Pacific Island hopping campaign, it had little opportunity to use them.

Just in time for the Tokyo Game Show, Wargaming has announced that the next patch for the game will include these Japanese tanks. The tech tree will have two branches, featuring nine medium and five light tanks.

"The introduction of Japanese tanks allows us to explore the design and innovation of a number of legendary armored vehicles and give players the chance to experience their technological evolution throughout the mid-20th century," said World of Tanks Producer Mikhail Zhivets. "Tank models based on original designs of Japanese engineers will offer players a wide selection of authentic upgrade schemes, each tailored for particular combat objectives."

The official site has a look at some of the tanks that will be part of the next patch.
