The catch? No more playing the game on the PlayStation 3.
With Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn coming to PlayStation 4, many fans were concerned that they wouldn't be able to play PS3 version of the game on the new console and have to essentially start from scratch. But developer Square Enix has revealed that it will allow transfers to the new platform.
FFXIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida said that players will be able to move their existing PS3 account to the PS4 free of charge when the game comes out on that platform. However, once they make the change, they have given up their right to play on the PS3 again, unless they but a new copy of the game.
Yoshida said that the transfer basically affect login rights, so players will be giving up their chance to login on the PS3 so they can get to their account on the PS4. Of course, A Realm Reborn won't launch until some time in 2014, so players will still have plenty of play time on their PS3s.
