Although the version of Helm's Deep that I saw during my walkthrough was still unpopulated, there was significantly more content added since the last time I had seen the area, including a handful of quests, and much more terrain. I was also informed that players will be able to engage with a lot of the aspects of The Battle of Helm's Deep that were left unwritten in the books, including Helm's Dyke and the Glittering Caves. The Helm's Deep expansion is "wrapped around the battle", giving players an inside view from all angles on what led to the battle and why, which sounds like an awesomely succinct story to me.
Helm's Deep will include five new zones and over 300 quests, and will have features such as mounted combat, warbands, and an overhaul of the skill system. The expansion will also include a new level of raid gear that can be obtained as a reward via the Battle for Helm's Deep Epic Battle.
During my walkthrough, I was thoroughly impressed by the immersion of the setting. The landscapes, character interaction, and meticulous additions bring to life the legendary universe of Middle-earth in a way that stands distinct from its portrayal in both the books and films. Helm's Deep offers a new look at one of the most well-known battles in the series, with both a firm grounding in the written universe, and the freedom to explore and offer new content to players. For long-time Lord of the Rings fans and n00bies alike, Helm's Deep offers the promise of new chapters to an already colossal story, and a cutting edge end-game that will re-envision the iconic battle on an epic scale.
