CCP reveals what's next for its huge space-based sandbox MMO.
EVE Online got a new expansion in early June with the launch of Odyssey. Today, developer CCP Games announced its next expansion for this winter, entitled Eve Online Rubicon. The new add-on kicks off the second decade for the MMO.
CCP has been rather regular in its expansion releases, with roughly two a year during its 10-year lifespan. Rubicon will be the 20th expansion for the game. The development is well under way, and CCP is expecting to release it on November 19.
The expansion is expected to take place in unexplored areas of space, with Capsuleers getting more power. The game will take power away from some NPCs and give them to players. CCP expects this gameplay direction started by Rubicon to take place over the next several expansions.
CCP is already working on another game in the EVE universe with Valkyrie, which uses the 3D headset Oculus Rift. The dogfighting shooter is scheduled to come out some time in 2014.
This is in addition to the PlayStation 3 game DUST 514, a ground-based tactical shooter that ties in to EVE Online's servers for seamless interaction between space and ground combat.
