North American players will be split into three regional leagues in Guild Wars 2's first season of WvW competition.
With the start of Guild Wars 2's first season of world-versus-world competition looming, the game's developers have decided to push it back to October 18th to implement some decisions that will change the competitive landscape. Most notably, the North American region will split into three separate leagues.
The world of Guild Wars 2 is filled with thousands of dynamic events that constantly change based on the actions of players like you. Fast-paced, action-oriented combat lets you attack on the move, dodge and roll away from enemy blows, team up with other players, and take advantage of environmental weapons to dominate the battlefield! Competitive play in Guild Wars 2 is easy to learn, but offers challenges for new players and hardcore PvPers alike. Guild Wars 2 is your story - your choices determine how your personal story evolves, and with thousands of possible variations, no two players will have the exact same experience.
"We've made this change in order to have more competitive matches over the course of the season, while still retaining the variety of matching up with a wide swath of worlds during the season," said ArenaNet's Devon Carter. The three leagues will eventually yield champions that in turn will compete in smaller bronze and silver leagues leading up to a final gold league competition between the six best worlds in North America. The season's start, originally pegged for October 4th, has been pushed back in part to deal with technical difficulties of the North American region splits.
Despite the delay, ArenaNet still plans to go forward with other planned measures in the run-up to the WvW competition. "The scheduled refunding of all spent World Ability points will still occur on October 1, and there will be no additional refund prior to the start of the season," said Carter."In addition, we will be introducing bonus WvW rank up chests as rewards for placement during a matchup on October 1." Players will receive one to three bonus chests depending on their server's performance. The chest won't be restricted to individual characters and will, instead, apply to an overall account. "This is a permanent addition to WvW and will continue regardless of whether a season is active or not."
