Players will be able to partake in Guild Wars 2's Blood and Madness events starting on October 15th.
Halloween is on the horizon and with it comes the (correct) belief that, for a little while at least, things should take a turn for the spooky. That in mind, Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet has announced the impending arrival of new content tailored toward the coming holiday.
The world of Guild Wars 2 is filled with thousands of dynamic events that constantly change based on the actions of players like you. Fast-paced, action-oriented combat lets you attack on the move, dodge and roll away from enemy blows, team up with other players, and take advantage of environmental weapons to dominate the battlefield! Competitive play in Guild Wars 2 is easy to learn, but offers challenges for new players and hardcore PvPers alike. Guild Wars 2 is your story - your choices determine how your personal story evolves, and with thousands of possible variations, no two players will have the exact same experience.
Set to release on October 15th, the Blood and Madness update will add festive content aimed at capitalizing on Halloween. Central to the new content will be the Blood Prince Erdrick, son of the Mad King Oswald Thorn who was at the center of Guild Wars 2's 2012 Halloween event. Erdrick's introduction will bring with it a bevy of temporary changes and special events.
For instance, the Mad King's Labyrinth will be making a return in the Blood and Madness update. This time, however, players venturing into its depths will find a portion of it under Erdrick's less than benevolent control. In turn, players exploring the Labyrinth can expect encounters with the Skeletal Lich, Grand High Viscount of Candy Corn and the Labyrinthine Horror.
The Blood and Madness update will also see the return of the Mad King's Clocktower, another addition first seen during the game's 2012 Halloween event. This year the Clocktower will play host to a race to that will challenge players to navigate its jumping puzzle before "the rising madness" catches up with them. The Lunatic Inquisition will also be making a return appearance, giving players an opportunity to partake in some fun PvP "madness and mayhem" as Villager characters try survive the onslaught of players cast into the role of Lunatic Courtiers.
Participants in the various Blood and Madness events will be able to earn a variety of Halloween themed rewards. Completing the Blood and Madness meta achievement, for instance, will unlock a Mini Candy Corn Elemental. Players will also be able to collect and trade Candy Corn for a variety of Halloween items, or participate in Mad King Says to be rewarded with the Mask of the Night item.
The update will also bring with it several fixes meant to further expand and refine the game. These will include combat quality of life fixes, improvements to the trait and skill tooltips system and the start of the Guild War 2's first season of World vs. World competition. Players can expect the Halloween-themed content itself to last the duration of the holiday. The full details of the Blood and Madness event can be found at the Guild Wars 2 website.
