Since its August 2013 launch Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has gained more than 1.5 million new users.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was developed and launched with the hope of erasing the stain and shame left in the wake of the original Final Fantasy XIV's horrendousness. At this point in time, it might be safe to say that its developers at Square Enix have accomplished that feat. The developer/publisher has revealed that the game, which re-launched at the end of August, has accumulated 1.5 million registered accounts.
FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that invites you to explore the realm of Eorzea with friends from around the world.
FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn lets you party up and adventure with a multitude of players from across the globe. Forge friendships, mount chocobos, and board airships as you and your companions create your own unique stories in Eorzea. All the classic elements from the series that you have come to know and love are waiting!
Set out alone or enlist the aid of friends as you undertake epic quests, battle familiar FINAL FANTASY monsters, and acquire unique abilities and equipment. Embark on the adventure of a lifetime to help reforge the fate of Eorzea!
Honestly, these figures aren't too surprising. The games re-launch was marred by server issues stemming from too many players trying to play at once. That on its own suggests that demand for the title was considerable from the get-go, in spite of the original version's infamous issues.
It's worth mentioning, of course, that these figures, while good, don't necessarily mean very much in the long run. Even if Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is popular now, the real test will be to see where it is a year down the road. As other MMORPGs can attest, the challenge isn't getting players to play, it's keeping their interest over months and years.
