World of Warcraft composer Jason Hayes has formed a vidoegame music cover band named Critical Hit.
Composer Jason Hayes has already done a lot for videogame music. The musician behind much of World of Warcraft's most epic musical moments, he's already made a bigger mark on the videogame industry than many of us ever will. That in mind, he's apparently not a man to rest on his laurels. Looking to pay tribute to the vast library of work produced by game composers across the industry, he recently formed his own game music cover band: Critical Hit.
Co-founded by "Piano Squall" musician Michael Gluck, the multi-member outfit was formed to "[perform] original arrangements and electrifying live concerts of music from the most celebrated video games of all time." Among Critical Hits' ranks are renowned musicians including Hayes, guitarist Nita Strauss, violinist Taylor Davis and flautist Sara Andon among many others.
The group recently released its first music video, a performance of the Angry Birds theme song and is working on its first album which should include tracks from classic franchises and games including World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Halo, Skryim, Super Mario, Mega Man and more. Interested listeners can pre-order Critical Hits' debut album at the group's website.
