Ever, Jane will feature gossip mechanics and a virtual world grounded in Jane Austen's vision of Regency Period England.
While zombified version of her classic novels have been released in recent years, you generally wouldn't consider Jane Austen's work to be chock-full of content translatable to videogames. They are, after all, about relationships, subtlety and polite conversation, with nary an exploding head to found. That being the case, some brave souls attempting to cross the bridge with Ever, Jane, an MMORPG that recently took its efforts to Kickstarter.
Ever, Jane is a social-centric MMORPG that takes place in Regency Period England and focuses on character action and social hierarchy as described by the works of Jane Austin.
Described by its creators at 3 Turn Productions as a "a virtual world that allows people to role-play in Regency Period England," Ever, Jane plans on taking "traditional role-playing games" and adapting their mechanics to suit the social games often played by the characters in Austen's books. For instance, in place of things like combat the game will feature a system built around conversation and gossip. "The [game] will notify someone if they are being talked about too often and a good sleuth may find the player who is spreading such rumors. If you are caught in your lies, the consequences you intended for your target will hit you two-fold."
Much like your standard MMORPG, Ever, Jane will feature character stats and personality traits players can use to customize their avatars and guide their actions. Much of the gameplay in turn, will revolve around player interactions and the dynamics of social class. The Ever, Jane team is aiming to reach a goal of $100,000 and, based on current contributions, it looks as though it could reach that amount. It's only three days into its fundraising and already fans have given nearly $23,000.
