SOE president John Smedley thinks the PS4 is a "stable platform" MMOs like EverQuest Next can "depend on."
If you were to talk about the EverQuest games most people would probably assume you were talking about PC games. After all, despite the franchise seeing some releases on consoles in the past, it's generally existed primarily on PCs. The future may yet see the series return to consoles however, as long as they're made by Sony.
While no official confirmation has been offered by the company, recent comments from Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley strongly indicate that EverQuest Next, which is being made by SOE, will find its way to the PS4. "We haven't announced technically that we're putting it on the PlayStation 4, but it's fair to say that we're a Sony company, so I say that with a smile on my face," said Smedly. "Can't wait to see it on PS4." Smedly would go on to cite the PS4's 8GB of RAM and integration of the PlayStation Network as features that will help make it a "stable platform" that MMOs like EverQuest Next will be able to "depend on."
If EverQuest Next does make an eventual debut on the PS4 it will find itself in good company. DC Universe Online was available on the PS4 at launch and PlanetSide 2 is being readied for a 2014 release on the console. Rest assured, PS4 owners and fans of fantasy MMOs alike will probably be happy if and when the game makes its way to the new console.
