Star Citizen continues to rake in the cash from fans eager to get their hands on the newest sci-fi space sim coming from Chris Roberts.

It seems like Star Citizen is breaking crowd funding records on a daily basis these days. On Friday, the game eclipsed the $29 million barrier, and offered details on a single-player experience related to the game called Squadron 42. And now this week, it is already at $33 million and providing a glimpse at what will happen at $34 million, which is almost a foregone conclusion with the way developer Cloud Imperium is filling its coffers.

So what goodies come with the new levels? Earlier in the week, developer Chris Roberts took to his "Letter from the Chairman" pulpit to tell fans that $32 million "unlocked the Aegis Surveyor, a ship dedicated to salvage that also offers some emergent gameplay opportunities." The ship is equipped with a reinforced cargo bay, a long-range jump drive and launch pods for unmanned drones. It also has tractor beams, floodlights, scanner options and docking ports round out the spacecraft.

In the latest update from the chairman's office for $33 million, fans unlocked a pathfinder craft known as the Anvil Carrack, as well as a fan-chosen "Information Runner" called the Drake Herald.

Roberts said that the fans have already spoken for the $34 million barrier, which will unlock smuggler ships. The ships wll come in two varieties: fast, armored ships adapted to run blockades and escape the authorities when necessary and totally innocuous ships that keep their cargo hidden from prying scanners." He said that several ships that have already been unveiled fit the former role, so a new ship, called the MISC Hull C (Discreet), would be developed to fill the latter.

It really isn't outside the realm of possibility to see Cloud Imperium and Roberts hit the $40 million threshold. It will be interesting to see all of this in-game, but I can only hope that the feature creep does not spoil the overall presentation of Star Citizen when it is finally released to the masses.
