Warcraft Film Delayed Yet Again

Even World of Warcraft needs to play it safe when butting heads with Star Wars.

The day a Warcraft movie comes out will be historic for several reasons. It would be the first major Hollywood picture to be associated with an widely recognized MMO. Warcraft would also offer a big screen treatment of Azeroth, one of the biggest fantasy worlds in gaming. Finally, it will mark the end of Warcraft's troubled production and extensive delays, which have pushed release dates back ever since 2009. Unfortunately, this won't be happening anytime soon; a mere two months after World of Warcraft tweeted a December 2015 release date, the film has been pushed back to March 11, 2016.

Unlike previous delays, the likely rationale behind this date might be considered understandable, even by dedicated fans. The previous release date, December 18, 2015, is the exact same day Star Wars launches its seventh episode. World of Warcraft may be one of the most recognizable gaming brands these days, but it doesn't hold a candle to Star Wars renown, even after the prequels.

Assuming that's the only reason behind the delay, and that there aren't any other behind-the-scenes issues currently unfolding, this should be Warcraft's last major date change. We'll have to wait and see however. This isn't the first time we've heard this story, after all.
