Paying subscribers can now access the much anticipated Galactic Warfare update for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The Old Republic, BioWare's MMORPG based in the Star Wars-universe, has officially launched early access for subscribers to its much anticipated Galactic Starfighter update. Paying players can now jump into the cockpit of their own starfighter and take on their enemies in deadly dogfights filled to the brim with all the brightly colored lasers and explosions a Star Wars fan could ever want.

BioWare, understandably, is excited about the launch of this new update and, in turn, has taken some time to talk up some of the new content's finer features, namely its customization options. "There are a TON of options for customization," said senior producer Blaine Christie. "And I'm not just talking about re-painting your ship."

According to Christie players will be able to add on and swap out a variety of components to upgrade and develop their fighter to their personal preferences. The changes, in turn, will have visible effects on the shape and form of each ship, in addition to altering its stats and abilities. Players will also have a variety of cosmetic options including "repainting your ship, recoloring your paint job [and] customizing the color of your blaster bolt." Players will also be able to hire crew mates and to further affect a ship's abilities.

As previously mentioned, the current release is being limited to the game's paying subscribers. That said, Bioware in no way intends to restrict free players indefinitely. As of January 14th Preferred Players will be given access with all free players joining them shortly after in February.
